Amalgam and mercury based fillings have traditionally been used to fill tooth cavities, and are still used today as an effective long-term restoration. However the aesthetics of dark metal fillings might be undesirable in some cases, and a common procedure involves the replacement of metal fillings with tooth coloured composite material.
Metal restorations can inlcude fillings, crowns, inlays and onlays, which can all be replaced with natural looking tooth-coloured materials.
