Complete Your Smile Makeover with Dento-Facial Aesthetics
Did you know when we smile up to 43 muscles are contracted in the face? These muscle contractions cause wrinkles and folds to appear in the overlying skin. We often refer to these features as ‘laugh lines’ and ‘expression lines’. As we age, the skin above those muscles loses much elasticity, resulting in wrinkles like ‘Crow’s Feet’, frown lines and naso-labial folds. These lines often create aesthetic concerns for patients. One remarkable method of addressing these concerns is through anti-ageing cosmetic injections.
Wrinkle Reducing Injectables
Reducing the appearance of wrinkles with cosmetic injections requires the administering of a pharmaceutical grade exotoxin directly into certain facial muscles. Although this toxin is derived from a bacteria, the injectable contains only purified proteins, which allows for very controlled results. The toxin blocks neurotransmitters within these targeted muscles, which reduces the strength of muscle contractions. As the underlying facial muscles relax, there is an aesthetic change in the skin above, resulting in a smoother appearance. Aside from cosmetic concerns, as they have the effect of relaxing over-active muscles, these injectables can often be used to address other dental issues such as TMJ pain caused by excessive clenching or grinding.

This exciting treatment is now available at our centre from Dr Yvonne King, who is fully certified and trained by the AADFA in administering anti-wrinkle injections. Using her combined technical knowledge of facial aesthetics and dentistry, Dr King believes careful and conservative use of cosmetic injections may enhance a patient’s overall look in a very natural way, whilst avoiding the all too common ‘frozen’ appearance that can result from excessive application of these treatments.
We are truly excited to offer this treatment to our patients, allowing you to achieve all your dento-facial aesthetic goals all under the one roof. For more information about cosmetic injectables, please phone our friendly reception call us on (03) 8683 0383, or fill out our online contact form.

Dermal Fillers at MADC
A dermal filler is a cosmetic procedure involving the injection of substances similar to those naturally found in our skin. These essential components are responsible for creating fullness and volume in the skin tissue, and can be found in all living organisms. Through the ageing process, there is a reduction in the concentration of these elements in our skin. The result is less volume and support for the skin, making sags, grooves and lines in the face. Dermal fillers can rejuvenate the volume of the skin, smoothing out the wrinkles and sagging areas in the skin, resulting in a more youthful look.

A dermal filler can also be injected into the lips to rectify aesthetic concerns such as uneven or small lips, and can also now be used by trained dentists for filling in and plumping up gums where dark spaces (black triangles) appear between teeth or dental implants.
At MADC, Dr Yvonne King is pleased to offer dermal fillers for a range of dento-facial concerns.

Why is a Dentist providing these services?
In the past, cosmetic injectables and dermal fillers were routinely a service exclusively provided by cosmetic surgeons and trained beauticians, or administered by auxiliary staff and nurses under their supervision. Recently, regulations were changed allowing Australian dental practitioners to provide these muscle relaxing injections for clinical problems like grinding of teeth.
As dentists already have knowledge and experience in injecting into facial anatomy, a dentist with the required trained in aesthetic and facial injections can also offer a broader range of treatments to patients using cosmetic injections, which can be used to address a variety of both functional and aesthetic concerns.
Are there any advantages in seeing a dentist for cosmetic injections?
Dentists who are trained and experienced in aesthetic dentistry have a very relevant knowledge and awareness of face and neck anatomy, including fundamental muscle function and structure. This knowledge, in combination with an extensive understanding of facial aesthetics, allows an aesthetic dentist to put together both dental and facial treatments, allowing each element of the smile and face to complement one another, allowing for a dramatic whole-face makeover.
Now your entire smile and facial makeover can be directed by the aesthetic guidance, design and skill of a highly trained aesthetic dentist, all under the one roof. Cosmetic injections and dermal fillers have a broad range of dental related applications such as closing dark triangles, revolumising and reshaping lips, reducing the appearance of a gummy smile, and minimising the creases and wrinkles around the mouth.
There’s more to smile makeover than just teeth!
